PetSavers – BSAVA PetSavers supporting antimicrobial resistance research

Gavin Paterson is currently Senior Lecturer in Molecular and Applied Microbiology at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh. He was awarded BSAVA PetSavers funding to supervise a Master’s Degree by Research project entitled Exploiting the healthy microflora to develop new treatments for Staphylococcus pseudintermedius infection in canine atopic dermatitis.

Pet abduction to be made new criminal offence in crackdown on pet theft

A new criminal offence for pet abduction is set to be introduced under government plans to crack down on pet theft following a reported rise in pets being stolen during the pandemic. The new law will recognise the welfare of animals and that pets are valued as more than property.

Study supports regular proteinuria monitoring during masitinib treatment

A new study, published in the Journal of Small Animal Practice (JSAP), supports the use of weekly proteinuria monitoring during the first month of masitinib treatment for neoplasia. Furthermore, the study suggests that a urine protein: creatinine greater than 0.5 should prompt reassessment within one week

BSAVA announces Congress 2021 Clinical Abstract Award Winners

The BSAVA has announced joint winners for the Best Online Clinical Abstract Award for Congress 2021. Inigo Sanz-Gonzales, ECVIM cardiology resident in training at the University of Edinburgh, and Ditte Erika Leth Vasby, a senior veterinarian in companion animal general medicine and dermatology at the University of Copenhagen were selected as the Award’s joint winners, from more than 125 high calibre research submissions from around the world.
