PetSavers announce 60th Anniversary Research Grant subjects

PetSavers have announced the subject areas for the four additional Masters Degrees by Research grants which they are funding in 2017 to celebrate the Association’s 60th Anniversary.

The four most popular research topics chosen by members in the recent poll were:-

1.    Chronic Feline Conditions
2.    Quality of Life Assessment
3.    The Use of Antibiotics
4.    Canine Parasitic Diseases

Grant applications can now be submitted on any of these four topics via the PetSavers website before the closing date of 31st August 2017. 

A total of 621 votes were received via the recent online vote and the ballot box at BSAVA Congress where members were invited to vote for the one subject area they felt was most deserving of additional research funding from a shortlist of six topics. Chronic Feline Conditions received the highest numbers of votes followed by Quality of Life Assessment.

The breakdown of votes cast was as follows:-

Chronic Feline Conditions 152
Quality of Life Assessment 137
The Use of Antibiotics 118
Canine Parasitic Diseases 85
Joint Disease 70
Advances in Oncology 59

Commenting on the poll results, Susan Macaldowie, Chair of PetSavers Management Committee, said:
“We were delighted with the response from members, which helps us to release funding for projects which will be most applicable to vets, VNs, owners and particularly many pets’ needs. PetSavers’ Grant Awarding Committee is looking forward to the proposals being submitted in these diverse areas.”
