BSAVA shortlisted for national exhibition award
18 February 2019
BSAVA is thrilled to have been selected as a finalist for the Exhibition News Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Award 2019.
The EN Awards, the largest awards event for the UK exhibition industry, recognise the hard work, success and talent of companies in the exhibition sector. BSAVA was chosen as one of seven CSR Award finalists, and the only event in the shortlist.
BSAVA Congress introduced a wide range of sustainability and community initiatives in 2018 including providing re-useable water bottles for delegates, donating excess lunches and food to food banks, bags and uniforms donated where possible to reduce the carbon footprint, reducing the volume of printed materials, increasing recyclable materials and providing a platform for Learning Without Landfill to launch their pledge.
Angharad Belcher, Head of Congress said:
“I am delighted that BSAVA Congress has been recognised by Exhibition News and shortlisted for the CSR Award. By integrating CSR principles into every conversation, thinking creatively about solutions to problems and engaging with stakeholders, we were able to successfully deliver a number of sustainable initiatives and community support programmes at BSAVA Congress 2018.
“Each had a positive and measurable impact on delegates and exhibitors as well as the environment and the community in which the event takes place. We take our role very seriously given the footprint of our event and believe that we have the capacity to influence.”
Jo Hinde, co-founder of the Learning Without Landfill campaign said:
“Congratulations to BSAVA for being nominated for the Exhibition News CSR Award. BSAVA truly embraced the sustainability concept in 2018 and continues to make improvements to an already excellent conference. BSAVA has shown how large events of this nature can become great catalysts for connecting, communication and positive change.”
Following Congress in April 2018, BSAVA has continued to develop further sustainable initiatives and the Congress team is delighted to announce the following plans for Congress 2019.
- All lanyards, kindly supported by Advocate, and delegate bags will be manufactured from 100% recycled plastic (PET)
- Delegates will receive a re-useable water bottle, kindly supported by Summit Veterinary Pharmaceuticals, removing the production of 14,000 single use bottles
- A new badge provider will provide a ‘print onsite’ solution – significantly reducing the size of the badges, wasted badges, and number that need to be posted out before the event
Angharad continued: “We are totally committed to delivering sustainable change at Congress year-on-year, whilst still ensuring a stimulating and innovative learning environment. We feel confident that this year’s CSR plans will be well received.”
“Our goal with Congress is to keep pushing for a reduced impact on the environment, and a positive impact not only on the veterinary community but also on the communities surrounding our suppliers. Through being collaborative and open to change, we can move towards a more sustainable future that we can all proud of.”
In another environmentally friendly move BSAVA’s member magazine Companion will be delivered in non-plastic compostable bags starting in March.
