BSAVA President Sue Paterson has written her second blog post about some updates regarding COVID-19.

I have been meaning to start a blog for ages but thought that this week was as good a time as any to share my thoughts with everyone.

It’s thought that at least 80% of dogs over the age of 8 have arthritis. But if you reflect on how many dogs in this age bracket you’ve seen in the last week you’ll probably realises that far fewer than 80% of them are receiving treatment. Arthritis is a common, painful and even debilitating disease.

It’s less than a month to go now until our last Birmingham Congress. It seems that throughout our blog posts there has been mention of a certain few people of whom Congress wouldn’t have been the same without. Last week we heard from John Dalton, someone who has been a Congress Hero to many, and a Past President who certainly left his mark on the BSAVA.

With Congress only a month away, we’re in full prep mode here at BSAVA HQ. I have to say, it’s coming around extremely quickly - but I’m definitely excited to finally experience my first Congress after hearing so much about it.

Last week you might have seen the stories that came in were a little on the crazy side. Congress 2020 seems so far in the future, but in reality, it’s only 5 weeks away! So, this week I’ve dug a bit deeper down memory lane and asked our Past Presidents for their stories and ‘Congress Hero’s’, and I’ve had a HUGE response! So today, I’m going to kick off with memories sent in from Professor Edward Hall, Ian Mason and Carmel Mooney.

This year marks a very special anniversary in the history of our Annual Congress. It will be the 30th year at Birmingham – and also our last Birmingham Congress before we buzz off to Manchester for Congress 2021. To help us mark the momentous occasion, we’ve been asking our members and supporters for their Congress memories.

As you may have heard, Congress 2020 is a big landmark in our BSAVA history. It’s our 30th year in Birmingham, but sadly also our last before our exciting move to Manchester in 2021. To celebrate our time in Birmingham, we’re going to be sharing a weekly blog post that highlights some of our Congress hero’s, interesting stories and some of your favourite memories of Congress during the past 30 years. We want to give Birmingham the send off that it so truly deserves, but also say a big thank you to those that have looked after us for so many years.
