Top rating for ISFM Feline Congress in Kuala Lumpur

Two hundred and thirty vets with a passion for cats, travelled to the city of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia to attend the International Society of Feline Medicine’s Asia-Pacific Feline Congress, from 2–4 November.

Run in partnership with the Centre for Veterinary Education (CVE), the University of Sydney, the congress attracted vets from 19 different countries, with the largest number of delegates coming from Malaysia, Australia, the UK, Indonesia and Thailand. This year, all delegates utilised a new congress app to keep up to date with the programme, activities and their fellow delegates. Via the app, the delegates were also able to rate the scientific content of the programme and the quality and location of the venue, and on both counts, the maximum rating was achieved.

This year’s congress focused on two main topics: feline neurology, and feline emergency and critical care, led by keynote speakers Duana McBride, Trudi Mcalees, Patrick Kenny and Mark Lowrie. The programme which was split into easily digestible 30–45 minute sessions, offered plenty of practical hints and tips for delegates to take back and use in clinic. One delegate commented: ‘Excellent lectures put in a very practical way that makes you feel like you can actually go into practice and deal with and identify these cases in real life. Thank you.’

Held at the stylish Hilton Kula Lumpur, situated in the heart of the KL Sentral area, the congress programme factored in an early finish on the Saturday afternoon to enable delegates to explore the cosmopolitan area or to simply kick back and enjoy the hotel facilities. There was also a welcome reception on the first evening of congress, where delegates were treated to an array of local food and drink.

This is the second year that ISFM and CVE have run an Asia-Pacific Congress, in an effort to fulfil the desire for high quality feline-specific CPD in this region. Future congresses are under discussion with locations such as South Korea, Japan and Hong Kong as possibilities.

The event was made possible by the support of founding sponsors IDEXX and Hill’s Pet Nutrition and gold sponsor Royal Canin.
