Which category is right for me?

BSAVA represents both vets and vet nurses, as well as vet students and overseas veterinary professionals. To find out which category of BSAVA membership applies to you, simply choose from the options below.

Full member

To join the BSAVA as a full member, you must be a member of, or be eligible for registration with, the RCVS or a veterinary practitioner listed on the Supplementary Register.

First year qualifed member

You must be a vet in your first year since graduating from a primary veterinary degree entitling you to membership of the RCVS.

Second year qualified

To become a second year qualified member,  you must be a vet in your second year since graduating from a primary veterinary degree entitling you to membership of the RCVS.

Third year qualifed

To become a third year qualified member, you must be a vet in your third year since graduating from a primary veterinary degree entitling you to membership of the RCVS.

Postgraduate member

To join the BSAVA as a postgraduate member, you must be a qualified vet who is undertaking full time studies which are verified by an annual certificate signed by your supervisor.

Vet nurse member

To join the BSAVA as a veterinary nurse member, you must be registered with the RCVS, or if overseas, the equivalent organisation in your own country.

Overseas member

To join the BSAVA as an overseas member, you must be a registered vet who is not on the RCVS register, with a permanent home and work address outside the UK.

Student member

To join the BSAVA as a student vet member, you must be studying for a primary veterinary degree in the UK or the Republic of Ireland and have a valid university email address.

Vet nurse student member

To become a veterinary nurse student member you must be a student in the UK.

Overseas student vet member

To join the BSAVA as an overseas student vet member, you must be studying for a primary veterinary degree, with a permanent address that is outside the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Senior member

To become a senior member of BSAVA you must be a practising veterinary surgeon in your 61st year. You must also be a member of, or be eligible for registration with, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, be a veterinary practitioner listed on the Supplementary Register or be a recognised veterinary surgeon in your own country.

Retired 70+ non-practising member

To become a retired member of BSAVA you must be a non-practising veterinary surgeon and at least 70 years of age. You must also be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and be listed on the Non-Practising Register.
