This course is aimed at vets in practice who wish to gain confidence in managing chronic intestinal disease in dogs and cats 
The course will ensure you understand how to make a diagnosis and the roles of the diagnostic tools available, to understand the diagnosis of IBD and manage common causes of chronic enteropathies in dogs and cat

Online activities (including quizzes and case studies) will support your learning and discussions on the online forum will be encouraged. We also provide additional resources to complement the course - the ‘BSAVA Bonus Bits’. These will include congress podcast recordings, JSAP and companion articles as well as a free chapter from the relevant BSAVA Manual .

The first weekly unit will be released on the First Friday of the month, with the next weekly units being released on the following two Fridays. The discussion forum is open for the first four weeks of the course and the course content will remain available for a total of 12 weeks. You can complete the work how and when you choose over these 12 weeks

Week 1: Approach to chronic GI disease
Week 2: Focus on IBD
Week 3: Management of chronic diarrhoea - current and future treatments

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, delegates should be able
to understand:
o the pathophysiology of chronic diarrhoea. malabsorption and protein-losing enteropathies
and to apply their understanding to be able to:
o construct a differential diagnosis list for chronic diarrhoea
o make a diagnosis of chronic enteropathy
o manage common causes of chronic enteropathies in dogs and cat


Prof Edward Hall MA VetMB PhD DipECVIM-CA MRCVS European Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine
Ed Hall is Professor of Small Animal Internal Medicine at the University of Bristol Veterinary School, where he is also Head of Comparative & Clinical Research. He has clinical and research interests in small animal gastroenterology.
A Cambridge graduate, he trained in Philadelphia and Liverpool, and is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. He is a Past President of the British Small Animal Veterinary Association.
He co-edited both editions of the BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Gastroenterology, and wrote the chapter on Diseases of the Small Intestine in Ettinger & Feldman’s Textbook of Veterinary Internal Medicine, the definitive internal medicine textbook.

To qualify for an applicable refund, cancellations must emailed to or requested by telephone on 01452 726700. With over 30 days’ notice we will refund 70% of the course fee.  With between 15-30 days’ notice we will refund 50% of the course fee.  No refunds will be provided for cancellations with notice of 14 days or less, however if we are able to resell your place on the course we will provide a full refund.

BSAVA reserves the right to alter the programme or the speaker should this become necessary due to unavoidable circumstances.  BSAVA reserves the right to cancel a course due to unforeseen circumstances.  Registrants should note that the BSAVA member's rate applies only when the person attending the course is a member of the Association.  To qualify for the reduced member's rate for courses, non-members must join BSAVA prior to the course.
