Learn Online: Feline Endocrinopathies - Updates in diagnosis and treatment

This Learn online course is intended for vets in practice who wish to increase their confidence in diagnosing and managing
the common endocrinopathies affecting cats. Knowing how to select the appropriate endocrine tests and interpret the results along with knowing the options to create an individualised treatment and monitoring plan for each patient.

Online activities (including quizzes and case studies) will support your learning and discussions on the online forum will be encouraged. We also provide additional resources to complement the course - the ‘BSAVA Bonus Bits’. These will include congress podcast recordings, JSAP and companion articles as well as a free chapter from the relevant BSAVA Manual (as well as a discount voucher for purchasing the whole book).

The first weekly unit will be released on the First Friday of the month, with the next weekly units being released on the following two Fridays. The discussion forum is open for the first three weeks of the course and the course content will remain available for a total of 8 weeks. You can complete the work how and when you choose over these 8 weeks.

1. Hyperthyroidism
2. Diabetes mellitus and DKA
3. Acromegaly, Hyperaldosteronism, Hyperadrenocorticism


Learning Objectives

1. Understand the aetiopathogenesis of the common endocrine diseases
2. Be able to list the common co-morbidities of cats diagnosed with an endocrinopathy
3. Know how to select appropriate endocrine tests to perform and how to interpret the results
4. Know the advantages and disadvantages of the available treatment options, and create an individualised treatment and monitoring plan for each patient


Tutor

Chris graduated from the University of Bristol in 2007 and worked in small animal primary care practice for three years. He then undertook a rotating internship at the University of Bristol followed by residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at the Royal Veterinary College, and then PhD studying feline acromegaly at the Royal Veterinary College. Chris currently works as the head of small animal internal medicine at Southfields Veterinary Specialists and is an honorary lecturer in Small Animal Internal Medicine at the Royal Veterinary College. Chris is an American, European and RCVS Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine.

Terms and Conditions: All courses must be paid for in full at the time of booking.

To qualify for an applicable refund, cancellations must emailed to administration@bsava.com or requested by telephone on 01452 726700. With over 30 days’ notice we will refund 70% of the course fee.  With between 15-30 days’ notice we will refund 50% of the course fee.  No refunds will be provided for cancellations with notice of 14 days or less, however if we are able to resell your place on the course we will provide a full refund.

BSAVA reserves the right to alter the programme or the speaker should this become necessary due to unavoidable circumstances.  BSAVA reserves the right to cancel a course due to unforeseen circumstances.  Registrants should note that the BSAVA member's rate applies only when the person attending the course is a member of the Association.  To qualify for the reduced member's rate for courses, non-members must join BSAVA prior to the course.
