This online course is aimed at general practitioners who need to improve their confidence when examining eyes.
It will cover establishing a routine for ophthalmic examination, how to recognise Uveitis and the all too common problem of corneal ulcertation.
Online activities (including quizzes and case studies) will support your learning and discussions on the online forum will be encouraged. We also provide additional resources to complement the course - the ‘BSAVA Bonus Bits’. These will include congress podcast recordings, JSAP and companion articles as well as a free chapter from the relevant BSAVA Manual (as well as a discount voucher for purchasing the whole book).

The first weekly unit will be released on the First Friday of the month, with the next weekly units being released on the following two Fridays. The discussion forum is open for the first three weeks of the course and the course content will remain available for a total of 8 weeks. You can complete the work how and when you choose over these 8 weeks.

Overall intended learning outcomes
After completion of this course, participants will be able to

  • Establish a repeatable routine for your ophthalmic examination, so that you can examine every eye.
  • Know when to perform further investigations, such as measuring intraocular pressure and taking samples for cytology
  • Establish a plan for the investigation of a uveitis case, including accurate diagnosis of the underlying cause, understand the many causes of this condition and formulate a treatment plan.
  • Invesitgate and manage cases of corneal ulceration in the most appropriate way.

    To qualify for an applicable refund, cancellations must emailed to or requested by telephone on 01452 726700. With over 30 days’ notice we will refund 70% of the course fee.  With between 15-30 days’ notice we will refund 50% of the course fee.  No refunds will be provided for cancellations with notice of 14 days or less, however if we are able to resell your place on the course we will provide a full refund.

    BSAVA reserves the right to alter the programme or the speaker should this become necessary due to unavoidable circumstances.  BSAVA reserves the right to cancel a course due to unforeseen circumstances.  Registrants should note that the BSAVA member's rate applies only when the person attending the course is a member of the Association.  To qualify for the reduced member's rate for courses, non-members must join BSAVA prior to the course.
