Emotional and physical health – understanding the links and implications for general veterinary practice
Woodrow House, 1 Telford Way, Waterwells Business Park Quedgeley Gloucestershire, GL2 2AB
Providing optimal healthcare for non human animals involves more than considering their physical health. This one day course will consider the interplay between emotional, cognitive and physical health and the implications for general veterinary practice. It will highlight the importance of emotional health both in the context of behavioural presentations and also when investigating and treating physical health concerns. There will be discussion about the importance of identifying emotional motivations for behavioural responses, the role of pain in behavioural presentations and the importance of investigating emotional factors when dealing with medical cases, such as obesity, lower urinary tract and gastrointestinal disease. The day will consist of a combination of presentations and case discussions.
