Feeling Under the Feather: Diagnosing and Treating the Backyard Hen

Overall, the course will cover the common ailments, diagnosis options and treatment of the backyard hen. The course will introduce the life of the brown hen, her anatomy and cover the basic husbandry and management needs including nutrition and typical problems seen. Vaccination programmes will be discussed including types of vaccines, administration and availability. Attendees will learn how to undertake a clinical examination, history taking as well as the different diagnostic tests that can be undertaken. Diseases of chickens and other common ailments will be covered before moving onto possible treatment options. Discussion will also cover POM-V medication, analgesia and withdrawal periods. Ben will provide practical advice based on experience of what vets are seeing in practice and will be presented with powerpoint with accompanying more detailed notes for later reference.
The aim of the course is to be able to provide you with everything you need for a practical approach to a chicken consult so that you are confident at being left alone in a consultation room with a chicken owner and their bird.

With between 15-30 days’ notice we will refund 50% of the course fee. No refunds will be provided for cancellations with notice of 14 days or less, however if we are able to resell your place on the course we will provide a full refund.

BSAVA reserves the right to cancel a course due to unforeseen circumstances. Registrants should note that the BSAVA member's rate applies only when the person attending the course is a member of the Association. To qualify for the reduced member's rate for courses, non-members must join BSAVA prior to the course.
