Beyond Baytril - Exotic medicine for the GP vet
Park Crescent Conference Centre, 229 Great Portland Street, London London, W1W 5PN
Exotic animals are continuously gaining popularity as pets and owners will seek veterinary advice to keep and treat them. Although basic principles apply, it is important to understand and be aware of the differences in dealing with and treating exotic pets such as the importance of a thorough husbandry review as part of their clinical examination, handling and restraint, hospitalisation needs and basic diagnostics.
During the course, we will discuss small mammal/psittacines/reptile identification; husbandry and handling; hospitalisation; supportive care; critical care and emergency treatments; basic diagnostic approaches; common diseases and treatment options; anaesthesia and analgesia in these groups.
This course will be divided into 7 sessions with 6 lectures and an open discussion session on clinical cases to consolidate knowledge.
This course aims to provide the GP practitioner with the necessary skills to tackle exotic pet cases with confidence and knowledge. We will aim to provide you with the necessary tools to:
- Perform a thorough and correct consultation and physical examination of an exotic patient.
- Come up with a differential list and a diagnostic plan for the exotic patient.
- Perform and interpret basic diagnostic test.
- Reach a diagnosis and formulate an adequate treatment plan.
