Dentistry made easy and maintaining your dental equipment
Singleton Environment Centre, Wesley School Road, Singleton Ashford Kent, TN23 5LW
First opinion dentistry should be as routine in general practice as neutering currently is. Most general practitioners try to avoid doing more than a scale and polish because they perceive dentistry, and extractions in particular, as being difficult. Paul hopes to show some simple ways to enable the general practitioner find dentistry much easier to perform, and maybe even pleasurable!
The presentation will cover extractions, radiographs, traps, homecare advice, rabbits and rodents, and the working environment.
Most dental courses and textbooks concentrate upon diagnosis and treatment of dental disease, with detailed instructions of the techniques needed. However, while visiting practices to teach dentistry, it is obvious that these newly learned techniques will often fail due to inadequate and poorly maintained dental instruments and equipment. Practices seem ready and willing to spend lavishly on orthopaedic equipment which might be used once or twice a month, but try to use the most worn out and old dental equipment which should be in use every day.
This presentation will cover the selection and maintenance of hand instruments, dental compressors, dental delivery units, powered hand pieces, and ultrasonic scalers. This will be ideal for both veterinary surgeons, and also nurses who are often the team members tasked with maintaining the dental equipment within a practice, but without guidance!
