BSAVA awarded Green Accreditation by Investors in the Environment for sustainability commitment

23 March 2026

The BSAVA is delighted to have achieved Green Accreditation with the national environmental accreditation scheme Investors in the Environment (iiE), recognising the Association’s significant progress and continued commitment to environmental sustainability.

The Green Accreditation is iiE’s highest achievable level and reflects the BSAVA’s ongoing efforts to reduce its environmental impact and collaboration on sustainability issues in the veterinary sector. This accomplishment builds on previous achievements of Bronze Accreditation with iiE in 2022, followed by Silver Accreditation in 2023.

The BSAVA has implemented a range of initiatives to support its members in strengthening their sustainability practices, including a major series on sustainability topics in its Companion publication, creating resources on responsible antibiotic and parasiticide use, and co-funding the development of a Veterinary Carbon Calculator. The BSAVA also participates in collaborative initiatives to tackle sustainability issues across the veterinary sector, such as the Veterinary Sustainability Roundtable and the Animal Medicines Amnesty, formerly known as the Antibiotic Amnesty.

To reduce the environmental impact of its operations, the BSAVA invested in electric vehicle charging stations and a major solar panel installation at Woodrow House (BSAVA’s Headquarters), and is measuring its resource use and carbon emissions. These changes have led to electricity usage being halved in 2025, and a 12% reduction in BSAVA’s overall carbon emissions in 2025 compared with 2024.

Dr Julian Hoad, BSAVA President, said: “I’m really proud to see the BSAVA recognised in this way. This achievement reflects the enthusiasm and dedication of our staff, volunteers and members, and our shared commitment to making a positive difference for the environment across the veterinary profession.”
