Response to CMA client research

8 January 2026

BSAVA, along with BVA, BVNA, SPVS and VMG, has provided a joint response to the consumer research report commissioned by the CMA.

CMA published (16th December 2025) a qualitative consumer research report on consumer reactions to some of the CMA’s proposed consumer facing remedies. This research was commissioned ahead of the CMA’s PDR, meaning there were some differences in the details of the remedies explored in the research and those published in the PDR.

BSAVA was pleased to see that many of the points we made to the CMA as part of our joint response to the PDR consultation aligned with those made by consumers in the Research findings.

BSAVA, along with BVA, BVNA, SPVS and VMG, have submitted a joint response to the CMA on the consumer research report. Within the response we reiterated many of the points we made previously to CMA either through our responses to CMA consultations or via Hearings at CMA HQ. These points covered the CMA’s proposed remedies relating to pricing information, a client satisfaction survey, a comparison website, maximum prescription charges and default prescriptions.

BSAVA will continue to engage with the CMA to influence outcomes that are intended to support a well-functioning veterinary sector that supports businesses, professionals and pet owners.

The joint response to the CMA’s consumer research report is available here.
