Petsavers – the charitable division of the BSAVA

Petsavers is dedicated to improving the health of pets, providing vets with a better understanding of the illnesses that affect animals.

Our pets provide us with love and companionship during our lives. We take care of them and seek expert help and advice from our vet when they fall ill or are injured. We want our animals to be treated to the highest standards. However, there are still many diseases, like many human conditions, that we do not fully understand.

Petsavers aims to change this – we fund studies into the illnesses affecting our pets and publish the findings in veterinary journals to further the knowledge of those in the profession.

We have already had success in gaining a better understanding of many common diseases such as diabetes, kidney failure, cancer, heart disease, arthritis and skin complaints.

An investigation funded by Petsavers into a pet disease is undertaken to the highest ethical, scientific and veterinary standards and none of the work involves any form of animal experimentation.

Our ultimate aim is to improve the health of the nation’s pets by relieving the distress and pain caused by diseases for which we currently have no effective treatments.
