Congress 8-11 April – BSAVA Lecture 2010

The Congress 2010 BSAVA lecture takes place on Thursday 8 April 2010 between 4.30pm and 5.30pm. The lecture itself will take place in Hall I ICC, entry to the lecture is free but tickets must be booked in advance. The BSAVA has great delight in informing delegates that the speaker for this address will be leading motivational speaker Joe Simpson.

Leading motivational speaker Joe Simpson, author of the bestseller 'Touching The Void' - his account of his near-fatal mountaineering accident whilst climbing the Andes

‘Touching The Void’, is Joe Simpson’s account of his near-fatal mountaineering accident whilst climbing in the Andes, and has subsequently become an international bestseller and BAFTA Award-winning film. His tale of two friends, thrown into a nightmare of life and death choices and heartbreaking decisions, captured the imagination of readers who had never been near a mountain. The pain, terror and human dilemmas were recognisable to everyone, and the themes of trust, friendship and endurance were universal.

Joe was born in Malaysia and began climbing at the age of 14 in the Alps, and has since taken him on expeditions in Nepal, the Peruvian Andes, Karakoram and the Himalayas. His mountaineering exploits have inspired him to write six books in total, including a novel.

Joe is now a leading motivational speaker of some aplomb. Joe uses his experiences and, in particular, the events recounted in ‘Touching The Void’, to illustrate universal messages that have a resonance with business audiences throughout the world.

Joe has an articulate, down-to-earth and humorous style, which will make him the perfect speaker to open Congress 2010. His presentation style is accessible to all, is highly memorable and extremely motivational. Feedback has been universally positive and Joe has been met with captivated audiences and standing ovations wherever he has spoken. No special knowledge of mountaineering is needed to understand the inspiring messages within this story and BSAVA 2010 delegates are sure to find the lecture enthralling and fascinating.
