BSAVA Lecture 2010
Thursday 8 April 16.30 – 17.30
Hall I ICC, free entry, tickets booked in advance
The BSAVA Lecture is open to all delegates and includes a guest speaker who gives an engaging address.
Congress 2010 welcomes Joe Simpson as the speaker at the Congress BSAVA Lecture

‘Touching The Void’, is Joe Simpson’s account of his near-fatal mountaineering accident whilst climbing in the Andes, and has subsequently become an international bestseller and BAFTA Award-winning film. His tale of two friends, thrown into a nightmare of life and death choices and heartbreaking decisions, captured the imagination of readers who had never been near a mountain. The pain, terror and human dilemmas were recognisable to everyone, and the themes of trust, friendship and endurance were universal.
Joe was born in Malaysia and began climbing at the age of 14 in the Alps, and has since taken him on expeditions in Nepal, the Peruvian Andes, Karakoram and the Himalayas. His mountaineering exploits have inspired him to write six books in total, including a novel.
Joe is now a leading motivational speaker of some aplomb. Joe uses his experiences and, in particular, the events recounted in ‘Touching The Void’, to illustrate universal messages that have a resonance with business audiences throughout the world.
Joe has an articulate, down-to-earth and humorous style, which will make him the perfect speaker to open Congress 2010. His presentation style is accessible to all, is highly memorable and extremely motivational. Feedback has been universally positive and Joe has been met with captivated audiences and standing ovations wherever he has spoken. No special knowledge of mountaineering is needed to understand the inspiring messages within this story and BSAVA 2010 delegates are sure to find the lecture enthralling and fascinating.

The Banquet 2010
Friday 9 April, 19.30 ICC, Hall 3 - £68.00

Banquet sponsored by Burtons
This is the most stylish of our social events – where you get the chance to really dress up as well as let your hair down with friends and colleagues, to enjoy exquisite food in elegant surroundings, before the entertainment takes to the stage.
The Bootleg Beatles have performed almost as much as the band they emulate. Since 1980 they have taken in more than 4000 dates on their massive international tours – even supporting Oasis and playing for Sir Paul McCartney and George Harrison. The ‘Bootlegs’ have set the standard for all those hundreds of ‘tribute bands’ who have followed in their footsteps, as they continue to keep the spirit and magic of the greatest pop group the world has ever seen well and truly alive. Their set will include songs known to us all and allow for a big Banquet sing-a-long, before the disco comes to take us into the early hours, making it a night to remember.
Champagne reception sponsored by Intervet/Schering-Plough
Dress is formal, although lounge suits are also welcome.

Stephen Grant once again presents his acclaimed comedy club and opens proceedings with a short set before introducing two of the most popular and fresh comedy names on the circuit, Jason Manford and a further comic who is close to confirmation.
The Mancunian comedian Jason Manford has won several comedy awards and is most recognised as his exploits as team captain on 8 out of 10 cats. Jason has also featured on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Road Show and Live at the Apollo. Even if you don’t recognise his face, you’ll know what he sounds like, as he can currently be heard as one of the voices in the BBC comedy sketch show, Walk on the Wild Side, and he has also featured in a well known insurance company's advert.
Following on from the laughs, The Proclaimers will bring the floor to their feet, as the twin brother favourites perform their emotional, honest, witty, sing-a-long anthems that have entertained fans throughout generations. They will perform their rousing tunes I’m going to Be (500 miles) and Letters From America.
