Veterinary Programme

Highlights of the 2010 programme include:

■ Recent advances in diabetes
■ Management of epilepsy
■ Fracture fixation in the cat
■ Blood transfusions
■ Oncological surgery
■ Farm pets for the small animal vet
■ Feline medicine

The programme is designed to provide the veterinary surgeon in general practice with updates and ideas that they can implement in their daily work. This is emphasised in the Interactive and the ever-popular “…Made Easy” streams. In addition, there are a number of State of the Art lectures to highlight innovation in veterinary science.

This year there is a lecture on genetic testing, which is likely to become an ever-expanding field in the investigation of hereditary disease in our companion animals. Masterclasses in topics such as chronic gastrointestinal disease, corneal surgery, imaging vascular liver disease, blood-borne infection in cats, and how to diagnose and treat food allergy in dogs and cats allow interaction with experts in small group settings. As in previous years, we welcome our colleagues from the North American Veterinary Congress who, in 2010, will share their expertise in the fields of dentistry and reptiles. Finally, do not forget the Clinical Research Abstracts, which allow for the most recent cutting-edge knowledge to be shared by all at Congress.

Nursing Programme

Highlights of the 2010 programme include:

■ Critical care for emergency patients
■ Feline behaviour
■ Gastrointestinal disease and obesity
■ Zoonotic diseases and an update on vaccination
■ Understanding diagnostic imaging
■ How to… (place tubes, catheters, cannulas, etc.)

The nursing programme is designed to provide the delegate with the opportunity to attend presentations from nursing and veterinary experts that aim to improve understanding and knowledge of issues faced in practice every day. A particular highlight in 2010 is the ‘how to’ stream with eight short presentations on practical techniques and procedures. Additionally there are presentations on how to make the practice more feline friendly, the secrets of being a successful scrub nurse, and updates on effective and safe analgesia and anaesthesia protocols. The Nursing Masterclasses are always popular; these sessions allow delegates the opportunity to study topics in more detail in an informal environment where questions are encouraged. In 2010 the subjects include:

Nursing management of the respiratory patient; diabetic case studies; the cat with chronic renal failure; what you can do in the practice laboratory; and senior health clinics.
