Ingrid Allgoewer

Ingrid Allgoewer graduated from the Veterinary School in Hannover, Germany, in 1990. She completed her doctoral thesis at the Ludwig-Maximilian-University of Munich, where she joined the small animal surgical department until 1992. Ingrid was a staff member of the Small Animal Clinic of the Free University of Berlin from 1993 to 2000. She became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists and founded in 2000 the Animal Eye Practice in Berlin, an ophthalmology referral practice.

Clarke Atkins

Clarke Atkins is Professor of Medicine and Cardiology at North Carolina State University. A 1972 graduate of the University of California, Davis, he completed his internship at the Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston. Clarke became board-certified in internal medicine in 1978 and in cardiology in 1992. Clarke is known for his research and teaching in small animal cardiology, having authored more than 150 publications. He is also the author of a multimedia interactive computer program in canine cardiology and numerous textbook chapters. In addition, he has spoken extensively in the United States, as well as in many countries around the world.

Matthew W. Beal

Matthew Beal is a 1996 graduate of the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
He went on to complete a rotating internship and then residency in emergency and critical care medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He became a Diplomate of ACVECC in 2000 and returned to MSU to build their emergency and critical care medicine service. In 2007, Matthew completed a fellowship in veterinary interventional radiology at Penn and now directs the interventional radiology service at MSU.

In 2008 she completed her residency in clinical pathology and became a Diplomate of the European College. Before joining Novartis Pharma AG in 2009, Martina was employed for one year as clinical pathologist by IDEXX Laboratories UK.

Bill Gengler

Bill Gengler is a native of Wisconsin, USA, and graduated from the University of Missouri – Columbia. Bill has 37 years’ experience of small animal practice and currently holds a dual appointment as Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs/Director of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at the University Of Wisconsin School Of Veterinary Medicine and as the Section Head of Dentistry and Oral Surgery in the Department of Surgical Sciences. Bill is the current President of the American Veterinary Dental College.

Thomas Gödde

Thomas Gödde studied veterinary medicine at Munich University, Germany, from 1984 to 1989. In 1990 he took up a residency at the Institute of Animal Neurology, Berne, Switzerland, for 3 years and in 1994 qualified as a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Neurology. Since 1994 he has worked for Veterinary Referral Associates, Piding, Germany, as head of department for clinical neurology and neurosurgery. His fields of active research are pathophysiology, diagnostic imaging and neurosurgery in degenerative lumbosacral stenosis.

Lynelle Johnson

Lynelle Johnson received her DVM from The Ohio State University and completed a masters degree (studying feline asthma) and residency programme at the University of Illinois. She is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and a member of the Veterinary and Comparative Respiratory Society. Lynelle completed a post-doctoral fellowship in radiation oncology at Colorado State University and received her PhD in physiology from the University of Missouri in 2000. Currently an Associate Professor at the University of California, Davis, Lynelle’s research interests include clinical respiratory diseases of dogs and cats and cardiopulmonary interactions. Lynelle is a co-editor of the BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Cardiorespiratory Medicine, 2nd edition.

Michael R. Lappin

After graduating from Oklahoma State University in 1981, Michael completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery, a small animal internal medicine residency and a PhD in parasitology at the University of Georgia. He was board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 1987. He is currently Professor of Small Animal Internal Medicine at the College of Veterinary Medicine and of Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University. Michael studies feline infectious and immune mediated diseases and has written over 200 primary research manuscripts and book chapters.

Julius Liptak graduated from the University of Melbourne, Australia, in 1992. After 4 years in practice, he completed an internship at the University of Queensland in 1996, and a residency in small animal surgery at the University of Sydney from 1998 to 2001. Julius completed clinical and then research fellowships in surgical oncology at Colorado State University. He was a professor at the University of Guelph from 2003 to 2006 before moving into private referral practice in Ottawa. He is a Fellow of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in surgery (2002), and a Diplomate of the American (2005) and European (2006) Colleges of Veterinary Surgery. He was the founding president of the Veterinary Society of Surgical Oncology and has over 50 peer-reviewed publications.

Douglas R. Mader

Doug Mader graduated from the University of California, Davis in 1986 and is co-owner of the Marathon Veterinary Hospital in the Florida Keys. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Canine and Feline Practice) and is currently the consulting veterinarian for the Marathon Sea Turtle Hospital, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Zoo, the Key West Aquarium and the Theatre of the Sea. Doug is an internationally acclaimed lecturer and is on the review boards of several scientific journals. He has published numerous articles in scientific and veterinary journals and national magazines, and is the author/editor of a major textbook on reptile medicine and surgery.

Wilfried Mai received the degree of Doctor in Veterinary Medicine in 1995 from the Veterinary School of
Maisons Alfort, France. He completed an internship in small animal internal medicine, and then a radiology residency at Lyon. Wilfried became Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging in 2000. He completed a PhD in biomedical engineering in 2004, focusing on high-resolution imaging techniques and MRI. A Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology (2006), Wilfried has been an Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University of Pennsylvania since 2004. His main interest is magnetic resonance angiography.

Claudia Nett

in 1997. She then completed an internship at the University of Zurich followed by a residency in internal
medicine. In 2003 she completed a residency in veterinary dermatology at the Louisiana State University, returning to Switzerland in 2004 to found her own referral practice. She is a Diplomate of both the American (2003) and European (2005) Colleges of Veterinary Dermatology. Since 2008, Claudia has been a consultant dermatologist in a veterinary referral clinic in central Switzerland.

Claudia E. Reusch

Claudia Reusch spent 3 years in private small animal clinics before moving to the University of Munich, Germany, for 8 years. She completed her doctorate on canine and feline diabetic nephropathies in 1992 and became Professor for Small Animal Internal Medicine at the University of Munich. In 1996 she became head of the Clinic for Small Animal Internal Medicine at the University of Zurich. Claudia was President of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine from 2003 to 2006 and of the European Society of Veterinary Endocrinology from 2001 to 2003. Her research focus is on diabetes mellitus and adrenal disorders.

Edmund J. Rosser Jr

Ed Rosser graduated from Cornell University in 1976, then completed a residency at the University of California, Davis in 1982. He has been on the faculty at Michigan State University since 1983 and is a full professor and head of dermatology. Ed has been awarded the Norden Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award and has received the SCAVMA Excellence in Teaching Award on three occasions. He is the author of over 70 book chapters and journal articles and has presented over 200 seminars internationally. Ed’s special interests are in food allergy and atopic dermatitis.

Dave Ruslander received his DVM from Cornell University in 1988. He completed an internship at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Canada, and then a medical oncology residency at Tufts University. Dave first came to North Carolina in 1992 as a visiting assistant professor. He received training in radiation oncology at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, and was on faculty at Tufts from 1997 to 2000 and then at NCSU from 2000 to 2004, before joining the Veterinary Speciality Hospital. Immediate past president of the Veterinary Cancer Society, Dave is board-certified in both medical and radiation oncology.

Margie Scherk

Margie Scherk graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1982. In 1986 she opened Cats Only Veterinary Clinic in Vancouver, Canada, practising there until 2008. She achieved ABVP board certification in feline practice in 1995 and published several clinical trials whilst in practice. She has written numerous book chapters and is an active international speaker, as well as enjoying teaching online. She is co-editor of the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery. Margie has served extensively in the American Association of Feline Practitioners as well as other veterinary organizations. Her interests include all things feline, but in particular the peculiarities of the feline digestive system and enabling more positive interactions with cats.

Kenny Simpson is an Edinburgh graduate (1984) with a PhD in gastroenterology (University of Leicester, 1988). After an internship at the University of Pennsylvania (1989) and a medicine residency at The Ohio State University (1991), he worked as a lecturer at the Royal Veterinary College, and then returned to the USA to join the faculty at Cornell University. Kenny is a Diplomate of the American and European Colleges of Veterinary Internal Medicine and is currently chief of the section of small animal internal medicine at Cornell.

Andrea Steele graduated in Zoology from the University of Guelph, Canada, in 1994 and went on to complete the Veterinary Technician Diploma at the Ridgetown College Campus, University of Guelph, in 1998. She achieved Veterinary Technician Specialist in Emergency and Critical Care certifi cation in 2003. Andrea has been an intensive care unit technician at the Ontario Veterinary College Teaching Hospital for over 11 years, and is currently the team leader for the small animal ICU.

Harold W. Tvedten

Harold Tvedten received his DVM from Michigan State University in 1971, his MS in Pathology in 1972 and PhD in Pathology in 1975. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Pathology in both anatomic pathology and clinical pathology and of the European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathology. He retired from MSU in 2000 after 26 years in veterinary pathology and currently works at the Strömsholm Referral Animal Hospital’s laboratory in Sweden and in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala. Harold has greatest interest in diagnostic clinical pathology and computer-based education.

Rico Vannini graduated in 1981 from the University of Zurich, Switzerland. In 1987 he completed his surgical residency at The Ohio State University. For 9 years he was faculty surgeon and lecturer at the University of Zurich and since 1996 has been head of a private small animal clinic. In 1994 he became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons and is currently vice president of the European Society of Veterinary Orthopaedics and Traumatology. Rico maintains an active interest in continuing education. Away from work he is a passionate scuba diver and birdwatcher.

Katja Voss graduated from the University of Zurich, Switzerland, in 1994. After 4 years in private practice she returned to the university for a residency in surgery. Katja became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2004. Between 2004 and 2009 she continued working in Zurich as an assistant professor, but since June 2009 she has been employed as a specialist staff surgeon at the University of Sydney, Australia. Katja’s main interests are feline orthopaedics, trauma surgery, and force plate gait analysis.

Jodi Westropp graduated from The Ohio State University College in 1997. She then moved to New York for a one year internship at the Animal Medical Centre, returning to Ohio for her internal medicine residency and PhD. She was board-certified in 2001. She is currently an associate professor in the department of veterinary medicine and epidemiology at the University of California, Davis. Her primary research focus is lower urinary tract disorders in dogs and cats. She is also the director of the G.V. Ling Urinary Stone Analysis Laboratory at Davis.

Following 5 years in mixed practice he completed a radiology residency at UC Davis and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology in 1991. He held a joint faculty appointment at the UC Davis Schools of Veterinary Medicine and Medicine from 1992 to 1997 and was head of radiology at The Ohio State University Veterinary College from 1997 to 2000. Erik is currently a professor of diagnostic imaging and chair of the department of surgical and radiological sciences at Davis. |
