Pain: The art and science behind current and Future treatment modalities.

This day will cover many topics in relation to pain, to include:

• The neurobiology of pain
• Challenges facing new approaches to pain management in animal species
• Pain control in osteroarthritis

“Joint disease; the present and the future”

Topics to be covered in the morning’s lectures and discussion will include the genetics of small animal orthopaedic disease, stem cell therapy for canine joint disease, a review of inflammatory joint disease and a review of synovial fluid cytology. We’ll also cover limb sparing surgery in small animals, limb sparing surgery in people as well as current developments in stem cell therapy for the treatment of joint disease in humans.

Current members include specialist internists and general practitioners from the UK and abroad who share a passion and enthusiasm for small animal medicine. The society hosts an annual meeting every year. An internet based discussion forum and is also available to all members. The way members use of the forum is varied. This can include obtaining different perspectives on the management of a case or posting new information that may be of interest to others

ESFM’s pre BSAVA congress day takes place on the 7 April 2010. This session has become a ‘must do’ part of the feline cpd calendar. Aimed at the practitioner, the day will cover essential techniques and provide practical guidance and practice tips.

The CABTSG satellite study day takes place on the day prior to BSAVA Congress 2010, on Wednesday 7 April in Hall 11A of the ICC in Birmingham. Registration for the event opens from 8.00am and a welcome address will be given by Claire Corridan at 9.00am.

As a satellite day to BSAVA Congress, AVSTS are meeting on Wednesday 7 April 2010 at 9am in Hall 6 of the ICC, Birmingham, UK.

The next British Veterinary Zoological Society (BVZS) meeting will take place on the 6, 7 and 8 November 2009 at the Park Inn Hotel, York. The theme is based on reproductive and urogenital problems in all species from mice through to parrots and lizards, Giraffe and Elephants.

The 15th FECAVA Congress 2009 will be held in Lille between the 27th and 29th November 2009. The event is organized by AFVAC (France), SAVAB (Belgium) and LAK (Luxembourg). FECAVA Congress is designed primarily for general practitioners and final-year veterinary students, the event will cover the two major themes of Feline Medicine and Exotic Pets. Lectures will be delivered predominantly in English and French, but some will also be delivered in German, Italian or Spanish.

The 7th Annual International Veterinary Behaviour Meeting will be held in the Hilton Grosvenor Hotel in Edinburgh on 28th – 31st October 2009.  The meeting will be hosted by the BSAVA Companion Animal Behaviour Therapy Study Group (CABTSG) in association with the European Society for Clinical Ethology and European College for Veterinary Behavioural Medicine.

The British Veterinary Dental Association’s next practical CPD course takes place on Saturday 31st July at the Myerscough College, Bilsborrow, Preston, Lancashire, PR3 0RY.  The full day meeting will deliver high quality CPD from revered speakers.

The AVSTS (Association of Soft Tissue Surgeons) autumn meeting is going to be held on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th October 2009 at the Cadbury House Hotel, Congresbury. The subject is non-cardiac thoracic surgery. An array of internationally renowned speakers will be presenting.

The 18th Congress of the European Veterinary Dental Society will be held at the Hotel Renaissance in Zurich between the 10th and 12th September 2009. As a consequence, the organizing committee of the Annual Congress of Veterinary Dentistry and the European Veterinary Dental Society has an offer for free registration to Congress in collaboration with main sponsor, Royal Canin.
