The 2009 recipient was Brian Catchpole, Brian is Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Immunology at the RVC, where he graduated in 1992. Brian lectures on both undergraduate and postgraduate courses and has been involved in supervising several undergraduate project students. He has supervised three postgraduate students who have completed their PhD studies and currently acts as a supervisor for a further three PhD students. His research is based around clinical immunology of companion animals, with projects investigating the pathogenesis of canine diabetes mellitus, innate immunity in the German Shepherd Dog, immunotherapy for canine cancer and immunogenetics of canine vaccine responses.
Brian is also a member of the BSAVA Scientific Committee and the UK DNA Archive for Companion Animals. In 2007, he was awarded the RCVS Trust Dame Olga Uvarov Research Medal for his contribution to veterinary clinical research.
