New Avian Surveillance Dashboard launched by APHA

28 March 2018

The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) has launched a new avian GB Disease Surveillance Dashboard, which can be found on the ‘Surveillance & Diagnostics’ webpages of the APHA Vet Gateway here.

The avian dashboard displays diseases diagnosed in non-commercial, small and backyard chicken flocks across GB using an interactive map. As such, it may be of particular interest to small animal and mixed practice veterinarians to see the most common diseases affecting non-commercial and backyard chickens.

The dashboard contains similar features to the others for sheep, cattle and pigs, and as with these, once a view on the map has been selected, it can also be downloaded as an image to use in a document or presentation. It can also be found via the Avian Expert Group page on the APHA Vet Gateway, which you can access here.

This launch is being accompanied by internal (APHA) and external communications over the next 7-10 days.

The APHA team responsible for the development and delivery over the last year of both the updated ‘Surveillance & Diagnostics’ webpages of the APHA Vet Gateway and the four GB Disease Surveillance Dashboards received an APHA Team Award on 14 March in recognition of these innovations and their achievements. To date the sheep, cattle and pig dashboards have received approximately 7,500 hits, and very positive feedback.
