Latest edition of the BSAVA Formulary now available

The BSAVA Small Animal Formulary has been one of the Association’s most trusted and highly valued publications for over a quarter of a century. It is the cornerstone of the BSAVA Medicines Suite, which comprises a range of printed, online and app based resources.

For the 10th edition we have new editors who, together with their editorial panels, have comprehensively reviewed and updated the information. For the first time both Part A: Canine and Feline and Part B: Exotic Pets have been published simultaneously.

Canine and Feline Formulary

The latest edition of the BSAVA Small Animal Formulary, 10th edition – Part A: Canine and Feline sees Fergus Allerton step into the role as Editor-in-Chief. New to this edition are:

  • 13 drug monographs, including those for chemotherapeutic agents
  • Bullet points within the Use section for drugs with multiple indications to aid information retrieval
  • Updated guidelines on antibacterial use, reflecting the information provided in the 2018 PROTECT ME guidance
  • 9 client information leaflets
  • Additional references in the digital version of the Formulary, which can be accessed via the BSAVA Library or the BSAVA app.

Exotic Pets Formulary

Joanna Hedley has taken on the role of Editor-in-Chief for the latest edition of the BSAVA Small Animal Formulary, 10th edition – Part B: Exotic Pets. New to this edition are:

  • 12 drug monographs, including those for celecoxib, maropitant and oxfendazole
  • The use of bold text to indicate products that are authorized for use in one or more of the exotic pet species listed in the monograph. The aim of this feature is to aid clinicians to follow the Prescribing Cascade
  • Bold text in the Doses section to denote particular species within a group. The goal of this feature is to help with rapid information retrieval
  • An updated general appendix and protocols
  • Additional references in the digital version of the Formulary, which can be accessed via the BSAVA Library or the BSAVA app.

Eligible BSAVA members will receive a complimentary print copy of Part A: Canine and Feline, and those who renew their membership in 2020 will also receive Part B: Exotic Pets as a loyalty reward gift.

Both Part A and Part B are also available:

  • As a printed copy (£50 each; £35 to BSAVA members) available from the BSAVA shop.
