BSAVA Travel Scholarship now open for applications

30 May 2017

If you are a practising vet in a FECAVA member country and you fancy going to BSAVA Congress in Birmingham in April 2018 for free, you can now apply for the BSAVA Travel Scholarship.

The scholarship, for up to four companion animal practitioners, includes:

  • Free access to BSAVA Congress 2018
  • Invitations to social events including a reception for overseas delegates, Banquet and Vet Fest.
  • Hotel accommodation
  • Some travel expenses (which will be reimbursed on arrival)
  • One year’s free BSAVA overseas membership

The overseas membership enables members to access Congress podcasts, benefit from discounts on BSAVA manuals and enjoy online access to website resources including the member journals, Companion and JSAP.  Find out more about overseas membership.

During the trip, the invitees will be expected to participate in official events and receptions whilst sharing their experiences about companion animal practice in their part of Europe with fellow vets.

BSAVA plans to award the scholarship to four recently qualified companion animal veterinarians (who have qualified within the last five years), who would otherwise not been able to afford to attend Congress without the help of the scholarship.

Applicants should be ideally working in a private companion animal practice in a FECAVA member country, and applications can be submitted by individuals or as part of a group.  Applicants must also be registered with the relevant governing body in their own country, similar to the RCVS in the UK.   Applicants also need to be able to speak and understand English to enable them to benefit from the Congress lectures.

To apply, overseas practising vets should send a 250 – 500 word application to Krista Arnold Dr. Med. Vet MRCVS at kavs@gmx.com by 31st July 2017. The email needs to give a description of their professional background and explain how they would benefit from a trip to next year’s Congress.  The application also needs to be accompanied by a letter of recommendation by the FECAVA Director in their country.

The successful applicants will be informed by 31st October 2017, enabling sufficient time to arrange travel and visas.
