BSAVA launches brand new resource for graduating vets
6 October 2023
The British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) is proud to announce the launch of the BSAVA Graduate Resource Hub, a platform designed to empower and guide newly graduated vets through their pivotal first few years in their new career.
Backed by the expertise of renowned specialists in their fields, the hub offers a unique collection of clinical resources ranging from BSAVA Congress lectures and manual chapters, case-based clinical rounds and procedures, webinars, and more. The hub will enable young veterinarians to access invaluable insights, guidelines, and best practices. Whether it’s diagnostics, surgery or internal medicine, these bitesize resources will provide the necessary guidance to excel in real-world scenarios.
The BSAVA Graduate Resource Hub also goes beyond clinical resources, recognising the significance of continuous professional development. The platform offers a plethora of tools and materials to nurture the professional growth of newly graduated veterinarians. From communication skills and client interaction to teamwork and how to deal with making mistakes, these resources are designed to equip graduates with the skills they need to thrive.
Carl Gorman, President of the BSAVA said: “Graduates will have access to a whole range of case examples, and resources which can help them to be prepared when they see those consultations for the first time, but can also provide discussion points for conferring with senior colleagues and peers, and it will also help them to develop their VetGDP portfolios and EPA’s.”
One of the most exciting features of the hub is its inclusive community forum, where members can engage in meaningful discussions, seek advice, and connect with peers who are navigating similar challenges. This peer-to-peer interaction fosters a collaborative, community environment, enabling graduates to learn from each other’s experiences, share insights, and build a supportive network that extends far beyond the hub.
Carl continued: “There is also a comprehensive range of non-clinical material. We really recognise that new graduates need to look after themselves in their own personal and professional development. We need them to be confident and to enjoy their start in practice life.”
As part of the association’s commitment to the growth and development of veterinary professionals, this invaluable resource is FREE to BSAVA members in years 1st-3rd year qualified. It is easily accessible and hosted on the valued BSAVA library, a trusted repository of veterinary knowledge.
Heather Durkin, BSAVA volunteer and recently graduated Veterinary Surgeon, said: “For me, I’ve been in practice for six weeks now and what I’ve found is that ease of access and navigation are critical for me. It’s really important to be able to go to one place and have everything there in front of you to dip in and out of when you need it, and that’s what you get with the graduate resource hub.”
