BSAVA donates £1000 to Mental Health Research UK to mark Blooming Monday

12 January 2018

The BSAVA is donating £1000 to Mental Health Research UK to support the charity’s ‘Blooming Monday’ depression awareness campaign next week.

‘Blooming Monday’ is taking place this year on Monday 15th January: a date which is also known as ‘Blue Monday’ because it is claimed to be the most depressing day of the year. Calculated in an unscientific way, the date takes into account factors such as the weather, debt levels, the amount of time since Christmas and low motivation levels, as most people will have already abandoned their New Year resolutions.

Mental Health Research UK encourage people to wear their brightest clothes on ‘Blooming Monday’ to start conversations about mental health and to raise awareness of depression and seasonal affective disorder. As mental health is such a concern to the veterinary profession, BSAVA Officers and staff have supported the ‘Blooming Monday’ initiative in previous years by wearing brightly coloured clothes on the day.
Mental Health Research UK is the first UK charity dedicated to raising funds for research into mental illnesses, their causes and cures.
