Vet Nurse Merit Award in Surgical Nursing

The BSAVA Vet Nurse Merit Awards are a structured CPD course for nurses who have an interest in furthering their knowledge and skills without the commitment of a certificate or diploma

Each award will provide 30 hours CPD and upon completing the work to a passing grade a certificate and badge will be awarded.

The details of the award in Surgical Nursing are as follows.

The online resource which will provide access to webinar recordings, electronic course notes and the platform for the MCQ assessment.
All materials will be pre-recorded and a new session released every couple of weeks. 

Topics covered will be split into Pre-operative patient preparation, Peri-operative monitoring and procedures and Post-operative management and monitoring through to discharge. 

A practical attendance day will take place at Woodrow House, Gloucester and the award will be finished with an online MCQ assessment and case studies. 


Our Speakers

Hayley Carne

Hayley is a Veterinary Nursing Lecturer at the Royal Veterinary College.  Prior to this role she worked at Queen’s Veterinary School (University of Cambridge) as Head Theatre Nurse and as Senior Surgery Nurse at the Queen Mother Hospital (Royal Veterinary College) specialising in surgical and theatre nursing.  


Sarah Batt-Williams

Sarah is the co-course director and Senior Teaching Fellow for the BSc and FdSc in veterinary nursing at the Royal Veterinary College. Prior to undertaking this role at the RVC, she worked as a lecturer at The College of Animal Welfare and Middlesex University on the Diploma and Degree routes of training for Student Veterinary Nurses.

Before taking the step into education Sarah worked at a variety of first opinion, referral and teaching hospitals in the U.K. and Australia, in addition to seeing practice in South Africa and the USA. During her time in practice she worked in surgical and neurological specialist wards and co-ordinated surgical and neurological services.

Terms and Conditions: All courses must be paid for in full at the time of booking.

To qualify for an applicable refund, cancellations must emailed to administration@bsava.com or requested by telephone on 01452 726700. With over 30 days’ notice we will refund 70% of the course fee.  With between 15-30 days’ notice we will refund 50% of the course fee.  No refunds will be provided for cancellations with notice of 14 days or less, however if we are able to resell your place on the course we will provide a full refund.

BSAVA reserves the right to alter the programme or the speaker should this become necessary due to unavoidable circumstances.  BSAVA reserves the right to cancel a course due to unforeseen circumstances.  Registrants should note that the BSAVA member's rate applies only when the person attending the course is a member of the Association.  To qualify for the reduced member's rate for courses, non-members must join BSAVA prior to the course.
