Welcome to the BSAVA research board, where you can find and support clinical research projects from BSAVA members.

If you are a BSAVA member, we can help promote your research project to the veterinary community. Projects must be in-line with BSAVA values and mission to promote excellence in small animal practice through science.

Please complete this form to submit your project for consideration.

Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease Virus 2 (RHDV2) in the UK

Contact Information: Eleanor Perry - Royal Veterinary College

Rabbit haemorrhagic disease virus type 2 (RHDV2) is a new variant of the classically known rabbit haemorrhagic disease virus. First detected in the UK in 2013, this infectious disease poses a risk to domestic and wild populations of rabbits and hares. There are now 2 commercially available vaccinations against this variant, but no studies thus far have investigated the distribution of RHDV2 across the UK.

This research project aims to investigate the epidemiology of Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease Virus type 2 (RHDV2) in the UK, through comparing regional distributions of the disease as diagnosed by veterinary surgeons. This involves an online questionnaire designed to be completed by veterinarians in practice. If you are interested in completing this questionnaire, please follow the link below. With wild rabbit populations on the decline, knowledge of where this new threat to rabbits and hares is within the UK may provide vital information about areas most at-risk and may suggest where preventative measures may be most beneficial.
