Critical Care CPD proves to be a hit with BSAVA members

The BSAVA Southern region were treated to a valuable session on emergency and critical care in general practice by Sophie Adamantos, BSAVA’s Chair of Membership Development Committee, in Reading last week.

Delegates were given an insight into a range of emergencies, from fluid therapy guidelines for cats and dogs to practising CPR skills on dummies, with course members discovering that the Bee Gees classic Stayin’ Alive provided the correct rhythm that should be followed when performing heart resuscitation.

The full-day CPD session also included a variety of practical tasks that focused on setting jugular and chest tubes and how to organise a ‘crash box’, while the day ended with a structured approach to the dyspnoeic cat and interactive cases to test delegates’ knowledge.

Krista Arnold, a committee member of the BSAVA Southern region, said: “I enjoyed the day very much- it was a great mixture of both practical and theoretical lectures.

“Sophie’s logical and practical approach to the presented topics and cases gave me great reassurance and a lot of tips that I can now take back to daily practice.”

The BSAVA Southern region’s next CPD event on practical endoscopy takes place on Friday 14th September and you can register here
