Vet Nurse Merit Award in Surgical Nursing

The BSAVA Vet Nurse Merit Awards are a structured CPD course for nurses who have an interest in furthering their knowledge and skills without the commitment of a certificate or diploma
Each award will provide 30 hours CPD and upon completing the work to a passing grade a certificate and badge will be awarded.

The details of the award in Surgical Nursing are as follows.

The online resource which will provide access to webinar recordings, electronic course notes and the platform for the MCQ assessment

The programme of live events will then be as follows.
Each webinar will be recorded so if you cannot make all of the live webinars you will view them again at your leisure

Triage and Stabilisation of the emergency patient

Friday 23rd February at 7pm
Pre-operative patient preparation

Monday 5th March at 8pm
Fluid therapy, analgesia and antibiotic therapy

Thursday 15 March at 8pm
Good theatre practice

Monday 26 March at 5pm
Surgical instruments and equipment

Saturday 21st April  9am - 5pm
Practical attendance day – Cambridge University Vet School

The practical day will cover
Optimising the role of the surgical assistant
Suture materials, patterns and knots
Wound management & bandaging
Postoperative care of the neurological/orthopaedic patient

Wednesday 2nd May at 7pm
Monitoring intra-operative blood loss and use of blood products

Monday 14 May at 8pm
Monitoring & Analgesia of the post-operative patient

Tuesday 22 May at 11am
Post-operative nutrition & placement / management of feeding tubes

Wednesday 6 May at 4pm 
Post-operative management of catheters, tubes and drains

Thursday 14 June at 8pm
Use of post-operative antibiotics and surgical site infections

Terms and Conditions: All courses must be paid for in full at the time of booking. Cancellation of a booking must be received in writing. Cancellation will incur a charge of 20% of the registration fee if received more than 30 days before the course, 50% for cancellation between 15-30 days and 100% for cancellation within 14 days of the course. Delegates must telephone 01452 726700 to ensure their cancellation has been received. BSAVA reserves the right to alter the programme or the speaker and/or to impose a surcharge should this become necessary due to unavoidable circumstances. BSAVA reserves the right to cancel a course due to unforeseen circumstances. Registrants should note that the BSAVA member's rate applies only when the person attending the course is a member of the Association. To qualify for the reduced member's rate for courses, non-members must join BSAVA prior to the course.
