Samantha Adshead BSc(Hons) VTS(Anesthesia) RVN
Samantha Adshead originally qualified via the vocational route in mixed animal practice in Staffordshire in 1997 (with the old style 'green book'). After working in general practice for a couple of years, Samantha enrolled on the Royal Veterinary College/Middlesex University BSc 'Top-up' degree in veterinary nursing, graduating in 2004. Following graduation, Samantha joined the veterinary nursing team at Davies Veterinary Specialists, where she has progressed to her current role as a full-time member of the anaesthesia service as a dedicated anaesthesia nurse. Samantha completed the American Specialist qualification, VTS(Anesthesia), in 2010.
Karin Allenspach DrMedVet FVH PhD DipECVIM-CA FHEA MRCVS
Karin Allenspach received her veterinary degree in 1993 and her DrMedVet degree in 1995, both from the University of Zürich. She completed an internship in small animal emergency medicine and critical care at Tufts University and then a residency in small animal internal medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2001, she achieved board certification with the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. In 2005 Karen received a PhD from the University of Bern, Switzerland, for her work on canine chronic enteropathies. She is currently appointed as a senior lecturer and head of small animal medicine at the Royal Veterinary College.
Belinda Andrews-Jones VTS(ECC) DipAVN(Surgical) LCGI RVN
Belinda Andrews-Jones qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 1996. After qualifying she spent two years as a head nurse, and then worked as a locum in England and Australia. She joined the Royal Veterinary College Queen Mother Hospital in 2001, and in 2004 achieved the RCVS Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Surgical). Then in 2006 she achieved the American Veterinary Technician Specialist qualification in Emergency and Critical Care, and became a member of the Academy of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Technicians. She is currently the senior nurse of the emergency and critical care department at the Royal Veterinary College Queen Mother Hospital.

 

 
Emma Archer DipAVN(Surgical) VTS(Anesthesia) RVN
Emma Archer qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2001 and spent a year in general practice before joining the Animal Health Trust in 2002 as a theatre nurse. She gained the RCVS Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Surgical) in 2006, achieving the highest marks that year. Emma continues to work at the Animal Health Trust, and for the last three years has worked as their anaesthesia technician. In 2010 Emma became a certified American Veterinary Technician Specialist in Anesthesia. Her interests are anaesthesia, analgesia, critical care and teaching.
Frances Barr MA VetMB PhD DVR DipECVDI MRCVS
Frances Barr graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1979, and worked for four years in mixed practice in Kent. She obtained her RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Radiology while working in practice. Frances then moved to the University of Bristol, first as a veterinary surgeon at Bristol Zoo, then as lead clinician in the University’s first opinion small animal practice, before concentrating on diagnostic imaging. Frances left the University of Bristol in 2010 to take up the role of BSAVA academic director, with the remit of developing the new BSAVA Postgraduate Certificate qualifications.
Daniel Batchelor BVSc PhD DSAM DipECVIM-CA MRCVS
Daniel Batchelor graduated from the University of Bristol in 1997. After some years in general practice he moved to the University of Liverpool, School of Veterinary Science, where he was the Hill’s resident in small animal medicine, becoming a Diplomate of ECVIM in 2007. In 2010 he completed a PhD studying the molecular physiology of intestinal glucose transport in dogs and cats, and its relevance to diabetes mellitus. He is currently a clinical teacher in internal medicine at the Small Animal Teaching Hospital, University of Liverpool.
Mark Beaney ACIB MBA
Mark Beaney is a partner in Hazlewoods LLP, accountancy and business advisors. He specialises in advising veterinary practices across England, Scotland and Wales. Hazlewoods have over 160 veterinary clients across all types of work. They run their own benchmarking survey as part of their services. Mark advises his clients on a wide range of business, financial and taxation matters. These include: practice strategy; profit improvement plans and efficiency; and maximising tax planning opportunities. He is often seen at veterinary events and is a regular speaker on relevant business and tax-related topics.
Nick Bexfield BVetMed DSAM DipECVIM-CA MRCVS
Nick Bexfield graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 1999. After spending four years in practice he completed a residency in small animal medicine and oncology at the University of Cambridge. He gained both the RCVS and European Diplomas in Small Animal Medicine in 2006 and is a European Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine. He remained at Cambridge as a medicine clinician for a further two years before commencing a Wellcome Trust Fellowship in 2008. His research interests are in canine liver disease and he has recently finished a PhD investigating the aetiology of canine chronic hepatitis.
Amy Bowcott DipAVN(Surgical) RVN
Amy Bowcott began her nursing career in 1997, when she worked at a general practice in Tamworth. She then gained the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) levels one and two in animal care. In 1998 Amy moved to a general practice in Sutton Coldfield, where she passed the pre-veterinary nursing exam. In 2000 Amy successfully completed NVQs in veterinary nursing parts one and two and therefore became qualified. In 2001 Amy worked at an emergency clinic in Birmingham. In November 2002 she moved to the Willows Referral Centre. In July 2006 she was awarded the RCVS Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Surgical).

 

Daniel Brockman BVSc CertVR CertSAD DipACVS DipECVS MRCVS
Daniel Brockman graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1987. After eighteen months in practice at the Churchfield Veterinary Centre in Barnsley, he began a residency in small animal surgery at the University of Liverpool. Daniel gained an RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Radiology in 1990 and a Certificate in Small Animal Orthopaedics in 1991. He moved to the University of Pennsylvania in 1991 as a lecturer in surgery, and became assistant professor of surgery in 1994. He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1999. He joined the Royal Veterinary College Queen Mother Hospital as a lecturer in soft tissue surgery in October 2000 and became a senior lecturer in 2003. He was awarded his professorship in 2007.
Dave Brodbelt MA VetMB PhD DVA DipECVAA FHEA MRCVS
Dave Brodbelt graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1993 and then undertook a residency in veterinary anaesthesia, also at Cambridge. In 1998 he gained the RCVS Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia and became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia. He then went into practice for three years, before taking up a PhD at the Animal Health Trust in the epidemiology unit, looking at anaesthetic complications in small animal practice (CEPSAF). After finishing his PhD in 2005, he moved to the Royal Veterinary College and is now a senior lecturer in companion animal epidemiology.
Donna Brown VN C&G Exotics
Donna Brown qualified from Bicton College in 1998 whilst working in North Devon at a mixed animal practice. She then moved to the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, working in the small animal hospital and concentrating on exotics. She gained her City and Guilds in Exotics in 2001 and lectures on exotics at Telford College, Edinburgh. Currently she works at Edinburgh Zoo as the veterinary nurse.
Gillian Calvo BVN A1 DipHECVN DipAVN(Small animal) CertCanine-hydrotherapy
Gillian Calvo graduated as a veterinary nurse in 2001 and worked as a surgical nurse at the University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine for three years prior to becoming employed at the Royal Veterinary College as a surgery and hydrotherapy nurse. Gillian developed an interest in neurological nursing and physiotherapy and has pursued a career involving participation in externships in the USA and canine rehabilitation centres. Gillian was a specialist neurology nurse from 2007 to 2011 at the University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine, which led to the completion of her Advanced Clinical Veterinary Nursing Diploma, RCVS Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing and her Certificate in Canine Hydrotherapy. Gillian is working towards her University of Tennessee Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner Certificate and is currently the head nurse at the University College Dublin Veterinary Hospital.
Stuart Carmichael BVMS MVM DSAO MRCVS
Stuart Carmichael graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1978 and then worked within the surgery faculty of the University as a lecturer before moving to private referral practice in London in 1990. In 1991 he was appointed as director of the Royal Veterinary College Queen Mother Hospital. From 1996 to 2009 he was director of the Small Animal Hospital and senior lecturer in orthopaedics at Glasgow before being appointed as professor of veterinary clinical studies. He was associate dean for clinical studies from 2006 to 2009. He is an RCVS Diplomate in Orthopaedics and RCVS Recognised Specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery. He is currently director of referral services for Vets Now.
Donna Carver BSc(Hons) Physio. DipAVN(Surgical) MCSP RVN
Donna Carver qualified as a veterinary nurse in 1993 whilst working in a busy small animal practice. She then took up the position of head nurse and gained the RCVS Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing(Surgical) in 1998. In 2000 she joined the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies as a surgical nurse. From 2002 she was employed as an emergency and critical care nurse. She also studied for a BSc(Hons) in Physiotherapy, which she achieved in 2009. She returned to the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in 2009 as a physiotherapist/veterinary nurse. Since May 2011 she has been employed at the University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine with the pain and rehabilitation service, providing physiotherapy and hydrotherapy to small animals.
Rosario Cerundolo DVM CertVD DipECVD MRCVS
Rosario Cerundolo graduated from the Veterinary School, Naples, Italy, in 1987. In 1995 he started a residency at the Royal Veterinary College. In 1997 he gained the Certificate in Veterinary Dermatology; in 1998 the European Diploma in Veterinary Dermatology; and in 2000 the RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Dermatology. Until 2006 he was associate professor in veterinary dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania. Rosario currently works at Dick White Referrals. He has been the president of the ECVD, and has also been chair of the Scientific Organising Committee for the past two Annual Congresses of the ESVD-ECVD.
Daniel L. Chan DVM DipACVECC DipACVN MRCVS
Daniel Chan graduated from Cornell University in 1998, and completed an internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City and then a dual residency in emergency and critical care and clinical nutrition at Tufts University. He is currently a senior lecturer in emergency and critical care and clinical nutritionist at the Royal Veterinary College, where he co-directs the section of emergency and critical care and the nutritional support service. Daniel is also editor-in-chief of the Journal of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care.

 

Sarah Collins DipAVN(Medical) VTS(ECC) CertSAN RVN
Sarah Collins qualified as a veterinary nurse in 1995 and shortly after became head nurse at a south coast first opinion/referral practice. After eight years in this role, Sarah moved to the University of Bristol to take up the position of intensive care unit nurse. Sarah holds a Certificate in Small Animal Nutrition, gained in 1999, a RCVS Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Medical), gained in 2005, and the Veterinary Technician Specialist (Emergency and Critical Care) qualification, which she gained in 2007. Sarah currently works for Royal Canin as a nutritional advisor.
Stacey Crompton HE DipCVN AVN(Small Animal) RVN
Stacey Crompton qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2005, also achieving the learner of the year award, at AC Training Veterinary Nursing School. After gaining her pharmacy certificate in February 2006, Stacey spent a year working in emergency medicine at ER Veterinary Clinic and Petmedics Emergency Veterinary Practice, before moving to Northwest Surgeons referral centre with a keen interest in inpatient nursing. Stacey achieved her higher education RCVS Diploma in Clinical and Advanced Veterinary Nursing in 2009 with a distinction, specialising in anaesthesia, medical and surgical nursing and is now currently working towards the emergency and critical care certificate.
