BSAVA Congress

There are 4 days in April each year that should be an essential diary entry for anyone associated with companion animal medicine. BSAVA Congress attracts people from across the globe, from the veterinary profession and from industry – all keen to get access to the world’s best science, an unrivalled Exhibition, plus an impressive social programme.

Its reputation precedes BSAVA Congress, so when the invitation to speakers goes out, the most respected minds in veterinary science look forward to coming to educate all in attendance in Birmingham. The programme is always diverse, so it does not matter whether you are an undergraduate or a principal in practice, you will be challenged and encouraged.

The first BSAVA Congress was held at the Shaftesbury Hotel, Monmouth Street, London in March 1958. The main lecture room was regularly packed with over 150 people and the trade exhibition consisted of 17 trestle tables, one for each of the exhibiting companies.

By 1961, the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) had been formed and the 4th BSAVA Congress, held at the Kensington Palace Hotel, was the first International Small Animal Veterinary Congress with over 40 delegates from overseas. BSAVA were proud to host the World Congress in April 2012.

BSAVA Congress has moved on considerably from those early years and now regularly attracts around 8000 visitors each year to the NIA/ICC for four days of world-class veterinary CPD, an unrivalled exhibition and vibrant social events.

BSAVA Congress offers a lively programme of social events over the four days including inspiring speakers in the BSAVA Lecture and big-name comedy acts and entertainment at the Banquet and Party Night.
