Rabies

To most of us the figures will be shocking, especially for a disease that is entirely
preventable – more than 55,000 people, mostly in Africa and Asia, die from rabies every year – that’s one person every ten minutes. Children are often the most at risk.

The Alliance for Rabies Control run an annual event called World Rabies Day to raise awareness about the impact of human and animal rabies, how easy it is to prevent it, and how to eliminate the main global sources.

To find out more about the Alliance for Rabies Control and the annual World Rabies Day events visit the website www.worldrabiesday.org.

As part of the 2010 World Rabies Day campaign a series of seven short educational videos entitled 'Understanding Rabies' has been released which cover the following topics:

  • What is Rabies?
  • What animals are most likely to be rabid?
  • Rabies symptoms
  • Rabies diagnosis
  • Preventing rabies
  • World Rabies Day
  • Rabies medical research
