BSAVA, with the Small Animal Medicine Society (SAMSoc), recently produced the first version of the PROTECT poster, which highlights the need for appropriate antibacterial use and provides some suggestions for the empirical therapy of several common conditions. It is inevitable that some of these suggestions will be open to discussion and review as new research is published, new products become available and current practices change. This list of suggestions in no way precludes the use of other authorized products should veterinary surgeons believe that they are in a patient's best interest.
This online version has been amended on 14 March 2012. It is BSAVA and SAMSoc's intention to continue to update this poster. Later editions may well differ in content and style, and we would encourage suggestions for improvements. Please send your suggestions to PROTECT@bsava.com
